Halden & Roe is a small studio in Portland. We keep the team compact so the people you meet are the people drawing your building.
We work mostly in Oregon, where the rain, the soft light and the timber building traditions shape what makes sense.
What we believe
-
01
Drawings should be readable.
If you can’t follow the plans, we haven’t finished explaining them.
-
02
Restraint is a design tool.
Fewer materials, better details.
-
03
Buildings belong to their place.
Site and climate come first, style second.
-
04
Budgets are design constraints.
We design to the number, not around it.
Drawn, checked, approved
Every sheet we issue carries three sets of initials in its title block. These are the people behind them.

Anna Halden
Principal Architect
Anna leads the design of every project, from the first site visit to the final walkthrough. She worked on schools and civic buildings before starting the studio, and she still draws the first sketches by hand.

Principal Architect
Marcus runs the technical side: details, specifications and permits. He checks every sheet before it leaves the studio and spends a good part of each week on site with builders.

Daniel Kerr
Project Designer
Daniel turns early sketches into full drawing sets and builds the models clients take home. Between meetings, he is usually the person you call with a question.
